Submit to Search Engines and Promote the Site

Once your site is live you need to tell the world about it or no one is going to visit it. Having a live site is just a tiny part of having a successful website.

Some of the steps involved in promoting your site are:

  • Ensure that each page is search engine friendly. Check out these articles on how to make you web pages search engine friendly.

  • Check each item on the SEO checklist.

  • Ensure you pages have targetted content by using various content optimization tools. If you are using Site Build It! you will automatically be doing this as you add the content with the SBI 'Analyze It' facility.

  • Have a google sitemap (a bit technical to do this - Site Build It provides one automatically). This ensures Google will index all your pages.

  • Submit your site to search engines like Google and directories. Directory Submitter is an awesome tool that allows you to submit your site to 350 directories for FREE in a very short time.

  • Submit individual pages to various sites that might be interested in linking to it. This will help you increase your page rank (PR). SBI offers an excellent free service called Value Exchange to help you get links relating to your site's content.

There are other ways of promoting the site too like paid listings on search engines, advertising and other promotion tools. Another good resource is SEOmoz. It has various tools and articles to help you rank better on the search engines.

As I said earlier this is the most important aspect of making your site succeed and is an ongoing and evolving process.

Make sure you have a way to check the number of visitors to your website. You can use a website analytics service to do this. Simply sign up and paste the code provided into your website. It is very encouraging to see the number of visitors to your site grow. It will help you analyse which are your popular pages and where your visitors are coming from. This analysis gives you useful information to make further decisions.

There are many other free tools available to help you maintain your site, track your progress and implement effective strategies.
