Interface Design
Interface Design is the next step in the Learning Design phase.
Once you have an overall idea of the content and content design you can design the overall layout and interface of the course. This design is usually used on all the web pages of the course. Consistency in interface design allows the user to get familiar with the interface and concentrate on the content.
Interface design includes:
- Look and feel – logo, main graphics, colors, style sheets etc.
- Navigational elements – course menu, print options, discussion forum, chat, technical support etc.
The interface design will need to be done keeping in mind the web platform or content management system (CMS) that the web course will finally be implemented on.
Some learning management systems (LMS) may already have an interface and allow only a few customization options. Worpress and Joomla work in a certain way and their theme/ template will have certain constraints. You will also need certain technical skills in order to create a custom theme/ template.
An image editing tool like Fireworks or Photoshop is usually used to create the interface design. Once it is approved the sliced graphics etc will need to be integrated onto the web platform.
If not web platform is being used, the images, style sheets and html template will need to be created.
