Storyboarding

This entry is part 4 of 11 in the series Web Course Design

Storyboarding is the final step of the Learning Design phase. The storyboard of the web course is the output of this phase. During this step each page of the web course is designed as closely as possible to the final product without actually putting in the effort of final development.

The aim of this step is to create detailed instructions for the team that will create the final deliverable.

Powerpoint could be used to create the storyboard. The interface design layout could be made the master slide. This way you know how much space you have to work with.

Within the content space you could put the textual content. You could use the shape tools to identify the area and size of any animations, graphics, video etc. If any graphics are already available these could be placed here. You can get cheap stock photos.

Within the notes area you could clearly detail out what should be on that page. This could include clear descriptions of any diagrams or graphics and, step-by-step directions on what should happen in animations, video or interactivity. Scripts for voice overs as well indication of any music file to be included etc. should be mentioned.

The storyboard should be verified by the subject matter expert (SME) and approved by the concerned person.
