Marketing Tactics

[This is part of a series on Finding Your Niche]

Mailing List. This is a tool that you can use to keep your market at your fingertips. You will need to signup with a mailing list provider like aweber.com, and then place your signup box on your website to collect subscribers. Research has shown that placing your signup box at the top left or top right of your website page results in more signups. But don’t forget to use the signup box on every page of your website, so that no matter where your visitors go on your site they can signup without hunting it down.

One of the best ways to get subscribers to give you their email address is to give them something in return. You can offer a discount, coupon, ebook, special report, etc., to subscribers. Since potential subscribers don’t really know if it’s worth being on your mailing list yet, they’ll be more apt to signup if they at least get something out of it.

Business Blogging. Blogs are a great marketing tool. They not only give you the ability to build a relationship with your market, but blogs also work to establish trust and help develop your status as an expert in your field.

As your readership grows and they get to know and trust you, they will begin to respect your opinions, take your recommendations seriously, and will more than likely buy from you as opposed to the competition. Just make sure that you update your blog frequently with fresh content. Otherwise, if your entries become stale, your readers may stop coming around.

Press Releases. A well-written press release can help get your business noticed, both on and offline. There are hundreds of websites on the Internet where you can submit your press release for free, but don’t forget to send it to your local media as well. If they’re interested, they may contact you for an interview and your business could end up on TV or in the paper.

Articles. Articles are a fantastic and free way to generate traffic to your website.
You can write on topics of interest to your target market, and include your website link in the author’s resource box where readers can go for more information.

Your article should be informative, easy to read, and well written. It should also be beneficial to your readers because if it reads like an ad, then it won’t be approved for posting. Online Surveys generally receive great feedback, but you’ll likely need to offer some sort of freebie to get people to take the time to do it.  To weed out those who are simply after the free gift, require them to provide information such as a telephone number or email address for future mailings.  If they accept the terms, you have their email and permission to send newsletters and sales related emails.

The World Wide Web is constantly adapting to new Web sites.  You'll find many online retailers or service providers come and go.  You can use this to your advantage.  By studying what they do or do not offer, you can often find what makes them fail.  Avoiding these pitfalls will help you become a thriving venture.
